  Mrs. Shannon Robinson

General Overview
Welcome to 7th grade Language Arts! I'm Mrs. Robinson, and I've been teaching over 15 years, 12 of which have been here at Wylie Junior High School. A Texas Tech graduate, I have degrees and teacher certification in both French and English.

Our Language Arts program is a 2-period block with one class period focusing on Spelling/Vocabulary, Writing, and Grammar. The other class period in the block is designated for Accelerated Reader.
Accelerated Reader
The Accelerated Reader program has proven to be effective at the Junior High in increasing students' reading levels and enjoyment of reading. The AR grade accounts for one-fourth of the total English average. The AR grade is based on number of points earned and average percent correct of all tests taken. One entire class period each day is dedicated to silent reading, taking AR tests, and going to the library.
Language
One class period of the two-period Language Arts block is designated for instruction in vocabulary, reading, and writing skills. Students work with twenty vocabulary words for two weeks learning their spellings and definitions. Writing skills focus on various types of writing centered on five main skills: focus, coherence, organization, development, and voice. In addition to reading short stories, fables, and folk tales, students end the year with a unit on poetry.
