This year our goal is to add to the growing core of words that has become part of your child's reading and writing vocabulary. Many of these "core words" will be high-frequency words that occur often in reading and writing. Being able to write these words quickly without conscious attention helps young writers to produce longer and meaningful messages. They are able to keep going without having to slow down to figure out every word.
Our goal is that by the end of 2nd grade your child will be able to add these 101 words to the 30 that they learned in 1st grade. I know this seems overwelming--but we have broken the list down by 6 weeks. These words are in addition to the spelling words and will be used as bonus words on spelling tests.
I encourage you to help your child not only learn to read these words but to write them, too!
