Dear parents,
The Academic Awards Ceremony will be Monday, May 14th. Friday will be “Hats for Jack Day”. AR recess will be tomorrow. Softball camp will be Wednesday. Buses will take the girls to the High School, and parents will pick them up. The Cheerleading Camp and Acting Camp will both be Thursday. Students who bought ice cream for lunch will have that on Friday.
This week in class:
Math: This week we will work on identifying units of measure for long distances, adding positive and negative numbers, creating a coordinate plane, and writing hundredths using fractions and decimals. Your child will have homework Monday and Tuesday this week. Your child will have a fact test over dividing 6s, 8s, and 9s on Thursday. *Any extra practice at home on all multiplication facts and dividing by 6, 8, and 9 will help your child in the coming weeks.
Science: We will start our last unit of the year. It will be a science unit on the topic of weather. This week we will talk about what clouds are and where they come from, what happens to the water in the clouds, and what causes storms.
Reading: We will finish reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We will study characterization, author's purpose, and fact/opinion. Students will complete their booklets and take the AR test for a grade. We will watch the (first) movie “Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” and compare it to the book. The poem is due Thursday. They should continue to read at home.
Language Arts: We will classify sentences and practice finding one part of speech in a sentence. We will practice editing using the format that fourth graders will be tested on next February. We will use their social studies workbooks. Those workbooks will be sent home at the end of the year and will make good practice pages for the summer for both reading and language arts TAKS. A Unit 34 spelling list is in their red folder. The spelling test will be Friday. In writing we will be finishing up our paragraphs and will be working on our second to last page of cursive. By the end of next week we hope to be done with the entire cursive alphabet :)
