Hello,

Welcome to the Wylie High School Agri-Science Department. I am Randy Gillum. I have taught Agri-Science at Wylie ISD for the past 16 years. I would invite you to read about the Ag. Department at Wylie High School and the opportunities that are available to students within our program.

We teach a variety of Agriculturally related courses to students in grades 9 through 12. We teach semester length courses dealing with Animal Science, Food Technology, Wildlife Management, Equine Science, Personal Skills Development, Agricultural Business, and Shop oriented courses; including wood work, metal work, and structural building. Our introductory courses, AgSc 101 and AgSc 102 are the foundation for the courses above and are incorpated into the freshman or first year classes.

We offer the students the opportunity to join the National FFA Organization. Members of the Wylie FFA participate in Leadership Development Events (LDE's), Career Development Events (CDE's), and Livestock Shows. Also members attend District, Area, and State FFA Conventions through out the year, in order to improve their leadership skills.

Senior students who have a very high GPA,an outstanding class rank, and excellent ACT or SAT scores can apply for scholarships worth as much as $15,000 each. To be eligible, the young person must have been in Agri-Science class a minimum of 6 semesters and have been an FFA member for at least 3 years, including their senior year. Participation in a variety of FFA activities is essential when applying for these scholarships. In 2002, we had a student receive well over $17,500 in scholarships, through the FFA Organization.

We are very proud of our Ag Department at Wylie High School. We have excellent facilities and equipment for our students. We are blessed with a supportive group of parents, admininstrators, and school board members; which in turn allows our students to excel in the classroom and in our FFA contests and activities. Most of our students go on to college and are very successful when they enter the workforce.
