Language Arts |
 |
 |
Language Arts includes writing, spelling, and grammar. In 4th grade we really begin to learn the writing process. Other lessons and activities include, Shurley Method (classifying sentences), Daily Language Review, and Write Traits. We have TAKS testing in Writing. This is the first time students take the Writing TAKS. They are asked to write from a prompt, which we do not see ahead of time. We also do a Poetry Unit at the end of the year. |

Reading |

Reading Lessons and Activities include AR-Accelerated Reader, and many Reading skills taught through a reading textbook and class novels.
AR includes a requirement of 10 points per 6 weeks; and a personal goal set individually for each student. Grades are taken on the 10 points earned: 100, a percentage grade of tests taken, and a bonus for reaching the personal goal.
We also take the Reading TAKS test in the spring. |

Grading System |
 |
 |
Grades will be taken on most lessons and activities. All grades, (tests, homework, classwork, etc.) carry the same weight. Failing grades may be improved to a 70 when corrected and returned with parent signature. Missing work will be counted incomplete until turned it, if not turned in at all a zero will be entered in the gradebook.
Progress reports will be sent home at the 3 week mark each six weeks.
Extra credit will be available in each subject area. |
